In 2019 Stellenbosch University became the first institution in Africa to participate in the DeepMind scholarship programme. Each year a select number of students from Africa are funded to pursue either a structured Masters degree, a research Masters degree, or a PhD at Stellenbosch University, with a focus on the theory and/or application of machine learning.
